Sketch of Proposed Landscape Plan

Summary of Proposed Landscape Plan

Here is an executive summary of the Huntington Landscape Design Committee’s recommendation.

Premise: Huntington landscaping is 27 years old and in need of replacement. Plants have reached the end of their lifespan and, in many cases, are diseased.  Common areas and outward facing landscaping has become unattractive and impacts property values.

Recommendation: The landscape design committee recommends replacing current landscaping with Florida native plantings - drought resistant to ease up on water usage, low maintenance for a clean, healthy appearance, and a “less is more” aesthetic that both updates our downtown property look and value, while still in keeping with the Huntington Townhomes’ character.

Since October, the committee, comprised of nine owners, has solicited and reviewed proposals from four different vendors for the project.  They differed widely in concept, scope and price.  All were highly reputable and committee members had some past experience with their work  Ultimately, in keeping with the mission described above, one vendor stood out as the best fit.

We recommend hiring Lesli Larmon/Florida Native Landscape & Design for the project. This covers:

1. Entrance - Replant 2nd ST beds, remove sickly plumbago. (Note: 4th Ave plantings are healthy - no need for change here).  Remove overgrown hedge in parking bump outs.  Remulch with rock and mulch as appropriate.

2. Courtyard Island - Replace all plants with exception of Crepe Myrtles and Ficus.

3. Courtyard Perimeter- Replace dead/sickly hedges, fill out existing jasmine ground cover where needed, replant both gate areas, leave bump outs by garages empty but add river rock where necessary

4. Pool Area - add pavers to East end of pool to extend deck area and save on watering, replace all shrubs on North side with Areca palms matching those on opposite side for privacy and simplicity of maintenance, remove all other shrubs except along the 3rd ST fence.

5.  Project cost includes removal of all undesirable landscape plantings, removal of debris, repair and redesign of irrigation, installation of new plants, hardscape and mulching.

Note: all recommendations have been made with great sensitivity to cost as well as longevity of plantings.

Estimate based on scope of project as described: $45,900.00

Note: It is reasonable to expect additional costs, or cost savings, as the project is underway, however, after months of research and discussions with Lesli

Larmon, this is our best estimate.

Timing for plant removals and replantings expected to take 2-3 weeks.
